What is self-care?
Self care, if you’re doing it right, happens every day. It doesn’t require having to make an appointment or paying any money. It’s simply asking yourself, “What is the most loving thing I can do for myself today”? And it could mean just stopping where you are and taking a breath, or going outside or working from bed.
6 Self-Care Rituals
1. Create structure for the rest of the year: What are the big rocks that we need to move to accomplish your goals by the end of the year with ease? Because we’re not going to do all the things, we’re going to do the most important things. We’re going to take the quickest path to these goals.
2. Understand your business cycles and plan with them. What time of years is your business calm and when is it busy? For me, August is not as big of a month, so I know I take my vacation in August.
3. Focus on what you can control and let go of you we can’t. I always realize this time of year that my desire to do all the things starts to really ratchet up. Is it enough? Have I volunteered enough? Have I bought enough gifts? Did I create any new traditions with my family? And having a plan for what I can control really helps.
4. Create a separate vision for this time of year. We have a ten year vision, we have a one year vision, but what is the vision for this time of year for yourself, and how can you do it with ease and joy and slowing down? What does that look like to you, your business, your family?
5. Have a plan to celebrate your year. I notice among the ambitious ones that we forget to celebrate it and to really take the time out to reflect on it. If you don’t take the time to just take a beat and celebrate, it skips past you. It’s like it didn’t even happen, and you wonder why it’s never enough, it’s never good enough.
6. Do a boundary check-in. Do you know what I find where people struggle the most with boundaries? It’s not necessarily in the creating of the boundary. I find that the biggest struggle for people is to not violate our own boundaries once we’ve set them.
