Tara Newman Bold leadership Revoulution

Setting Your Priorities From The Wheel of Life Exercise

Hey, bold leaders. It is my absolute favorite week of the year, the week between Christmas and New Year’s where you have no idea what day it is or what planet you’re on. Right this very minute, as you’re listening to this, I’m curled up on my favorite chair with the softest coziest blanket and a London Fog, doing the most important work I do all year. I’m reflecting on 2020, all 1,011 days of 2020. This is important work as you prepare for any plans you put into place for 2021. Each year at this time, we roll out our five day journaling for vision, clarity, and abundance training, where you get to take stock of the key areas in your life. Each day this week, I’m going to walk you through each of the days in this training. The components in this assessment are more life oriented and the reason we do this is to ensure that we build a business around your life, and not the other way around.

Too often, I see business owners overworking and sacrificing what truly brings them fulfillment and joy. Setting some life goals like upgrades to your home, or vacations with friends go a long way in determining why you want to profit in your business this year. It gives you a purpose for your profit. The leaders who have gone through this training have received amazing results that they would have paid good money for, and we are giving it to you for free. One person even told me that this training was worth a million dollars. Katie, who has done this training, said “A huge thank you to Tara. This is the first five day challenge I have ever completed, and you’ve changed my mindset on journaling. It’s been invaluable to kickstart me back into connecting with my next chapter. I’m loving how I’ll be showing up in the world.”

Maybe you’re feeling like you’re faced with a million different decisions, or choices, or possibilities, and the decision fatigue is real. Second guessing yourself can really keep you frozen. Maybe you feel like you have so many goals with so little time to focus. This is how Patrick felt until he did our five day challenge.

I can’t thank Tara enough for setting me straight on what I should be focused on and more importantly, why I should be focused on it. Do yourself a solid and get over to her training and learn how to get focused, gain perspective on what it is you really want for your personal and business blueprint. I’ve already moved forward more than I have in a very long time.” Thank you, Patrick. Thank you. I appreciate that. And I’m so happy that you and Katie have had the results that you’ve had through this five day challenge. So many reluctant journalers have let me know this has helped them get the habits started. So grab a cup of coffee or your London Fog, and join me each day this week to journal for clarity, abundance, and vision.

Want the workbook that goes along with this audio? Come on over to theboldleadershiprevolution.com/journaling.

Hey there, so glad to have you back with me for day two, although you might not like me very much when we get done with this exercise, I want you to pull out yesterday’s assignment with the wheel of life because now it’s time to get accountable to making some tough decisions. And that’s why I said you might not like me when we get done with this exercise and that is exactly why I’m here in your ear, walking you through this.

So grab the categories from yesterday’s wheel of life and I want you to ask yourself a question and you can… This is where you can open your journal, just write it down on a page. You don’t need to have another wheel of life sheet. You don’t need a fancy printable or anything like that. We’re cutting right to the chase like I mentioned in yesterday’s audio recording. This is the quickest path to the goal is just to whip out your journal. And I want you to get really nice and comfortable with every day pulling out your journal for about 20 minutes a day.

And in your journal, you are going to rate these categories that we did yesterday on a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being the most important right now. I want you to rate each category in terms of importance. And yes, you have to choose. Yes, making this choice is hard, but think about it in the terms of the next 30 to 90 days. Where do you want to focus? Where do you want to be present? What is your most important mission? So go through the categories, give them a rating, 1 to 10, 10 being the most important.

You might have a few tens right now, but we’re going to knock that out because I’m only going to let you have one 10 for the next 30 to 90 days. This is about looking at one area and choosing to go deeper, not wider across multiple areas. This is a go with your gut moment. As leaders, the most important tool we have at our disposal is our intuition or our gut, and that is really one of the most important things about journaling is it’s 20 minutes in quiet, listening to your gut, listening to your intuition.

Another way to think about this comes from the book, The One Thing, what’s the one thing that would make everything else unnecessary right now that by focusing on this one thing, it knocks out everything else? Now, I know you might be digging your heels in right now. You might be having a little bit of a fit.

Most of the leaders I work with truly object to being asked to narrow their focus. It feels scary to not do hashtag all the things. We often use multiple priorities as an intentional distraction or defense mechanism for not wanting to look at what’s really going on in our lives. If you’re feeling squirrely about this or anxious, if you’re having a hard time sitting still and staying present with this work right now, I want to simply honor the way you’re feeling. Think of this as a creative exercise and stay in possibility. What would be possible for you if you picked a singular focus for the next few months?

Now, of course you have other responsibilities. I’m not talking about you’re just going to do one thing and forget about everything else, but when push comes to shove, you’re carving out time for this one area. It gets your first and freshest attention. It’s the first thing you think about, it’s the first thing you do in the morning, it’s what you’re measuring. This is important work. This is the important work. So I encourage you to hit reply and let me know how it felt to narrow your focus. What is your one thing going to be? Will it be money, career, your marriage? What are you going all-in on for the next 30 to 90 days? Reach out on Instagram and let me know.
